TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rupiah strengthened by 94 points (0.72 percent) to be traded for Rp12,947 per US dollar today at the spot market.
The garuda opened today's trade, September 27, with a slight gain of 0.08 percent or 11 bps to at Rp13.030 per dollar.
Yesterday, the rupiah closed 40 points (0.31 percent) up at Rp13.041 a dollar, after spending Monday fluctuating between Rp13,018 and Rp13,103 per US dollar.
NH Korindo Securities chief researcher Reza Priyambada said the rupiah seems strong enough to gain further against the greenback now that The Fed has decided it would not raise interest rates.
The rupiah gain was also supported by positive domestic sentiments stemming from Sri Mulyani's announcement that the first period of the tax amnesty program will be extended to December due to administrative reasons.
At 11 am Jakarta time, the rupiah became the Asian currency that posted the highest gain with a 0.88-percent appreciation (115 points), traded for Rp12,926 per US dollar.
