Ministry to Tighten Up Vessel Certification to Prevent Accidents

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In a bid to prevent sea accidents, Transportation Ministry will tighten up the certification process of vessels.
The weather recently that has entered the rainy season and has the potential to create a storm and high waves and sea accidents are prone to happen.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said he had been communicating and called PT Society Indonesia (BKI) to discuss the issue of certification of vessels.
"We also conduct an investigation of the vessel certification process to find out whether the certification process has been done well or not," Budi said on Sunday (25/9).
According to him, one of the possible causes of sea accidents is the certification process that is not conducted well.
Budi added that safety is a very important factor in realizing transport connectivity.
"There will be no connectivity if safety is compromised," he added.
Budi also reminded the people, transport operators, and all officials of the Ministry of Transportation to always put the safety first in carrying out the transport services.
