TEMPO.CO, Cilacap - Nurhaidin (21), a resident from Sidengok village, Banjarnegara regency, Central Java, was killed in a landslide that hit his house, according to Catur Subandrio, Acting Head of Banjarnegara Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

"His body was found at 10:30 am local time and was evacuated at 11 am. The body was then given to his family to be buried," Catur said on Sunday.

Catur added the incident began when a landslide hit Nurhaidin's house on Saturday at 7 am. The landslide was triggerd by heavy rains that lasted since Friday at 12 am until early Saturday morning, Catur said.

When the landslide struck, Catur added, Nurhaidin was repairing a culvert on the back of the house.

Unbeknown to him, a 15-meter cliff located behind the house collapsed and buried the house and Nurhaidin himself.

A team from Banjarnegara BPBD, volunteers and the locals were deployed to search the victim.

"We are urging Banjarnegara residents to raise alert because according to BMKG (The Metereology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency), the rainy season this year is still affected by La Nina so the rain is exepcted to be heavier than usual," Catur said, adding that 13 out of 20 districts in Banjarnegara are prone to landslides.
