TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - CNN Indonesia has officially extended an apology to the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and invited the institution to a discussion in relation to CNN’s move to blur the image of swimmers.
“In general, the KPI will intensify the communication through discussions with broadcasting institutions to clarify the broadcasting code of conduct and standards,” KPI commissioner Nuning Rodiyah said in Jakarta on Monday, September 19, 2016.
CNN Indonesia sent a letter containing an apology in relation to its move to blur images when interviewing swimmers at the 2016 National Games (PON).
“We realize that the policy to blur images in the news is not in line with the journalism standards practiced by CNN Indonesia. Therefore, we extend an apology in relation to the matter, since it also has impacts to the KPI,” CNN TV president director Titin Resmasar said in the letter as quoted by Antaranews.com.
CNN Indonesia viewed that there were multiple interpretations in the KPI’s regulation regarding bans on body exploitations. One of the provisions requires an athlete to wear a towel when being interviewed.
“The provision on broadcasting images of Papuan women wearing traditional clothes has also sparked questions. Such questions were raised by CNN Indonesia’s editorial staff that need to be discussed and explained by the KPI,” Titin added.
