TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Haposan Sihombing, legal attorney for David James Taylor and Sara Connor, two foreign tourists who were charged for killing a police officer in Bali, explained how the incident happened. David and Sara were arrested by the Bali police for murdering Asst. Insp. Wayan Sudarsa on the early hours of Wednesday last week, August 17, 2016.

Haposan said that the incident started when Sara, David’s girlfriend, was looking for her missing bag on Kuta beach on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Both Sara and David asked a man about the bag. The man was later identified as Wayan Sudarsa. "The Police shoved [David]," Haposan said at the Denpasar Police headquarter on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. "[David] fell, and was pinned [by Wayan]. Sara came to break off the two," Haposan added.

At that time, David saw that Wayan was carrying a binocular. David then grabbed the binocular and hit Wayan’s head, according to Haposan. Later, David asked about Sara's bag to Wayan once again. Wayan pointed to a location close to where they fight.

"[David] stand up, and suddenly his leg was pulled [by Wayan] and he fell. That is when David's hand touched a sharp object, which he later used to hit Wayan," Haposan said.

Haposan added that after that, David saw a cellular phone, and used it to hit Wayan. Not long after, David saw a large beer bottle, "and again used it to hit the back of [Wayan's] head, stopping his resistance," Haposan said.

Once Wayan has no longer put up a fight, David attempted to find his girlfriend's bag. Even at that time, David managed to find two more beer bottles. "He was anticipating, want to make sure about the victim’s condition. He tried to flip [Wayan's body] but there's no movement," Haposan said.

David later took Sara back to their hotel. "The next day [Thursday, August 18, 2016], they moved [hotel] to Jimbaran," Haposan stated.
