100,000 Inmates Break MURI Record by Singing `Hari Merdeka`

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Some 150,000 of prisoners have broken up the Indonesia World Record Museum (MURI) on having the most participants for singing 'Hari Merdeka' (Independence Day) song. The event held by the Directorate Generals of Corrections was to commemorate Indonesia’s 71st independence day.
The Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly opened the event in the Narcotics Penitentiary Klas IIA, Cipinang, East Jakarta, Monday, August 15, 2016.
Yasonna was accompanied by the Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, the Law Commission of the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Commission on Child Protection Kak Seto, and the officials of the ministry of law and human rights.
The prisoners were from the 477 units of technical implementation of corrections throughout Indonesia. All of these penitentiaries are connected through the Zoom applications and the activity could be seen live on Television.
The conductor Addie M. S. led the inmates to sing and the event then hosted by the comedian Cak Lontong. He hoped that the record breaking for all these prisoners is to be the first and the last. “If this event is being done again next year, it means that the prisoners are increasing.” Cak Lontong said, followed with the laughs from the audience.
The prisoners also break the record on the game ‘Terompah Panjang'. The inmates in the Narcotics Penitentiary, Cipinang were wearing red and white T-Shirt and everyone held a small flag. They all gather on the field and happy smiles were seen on their faces.
In his speech, Minister Yasonna said, “I'd like to say to all of you to never feel small. Never lose hope. Make this a lifetime valuable lessons.”
