TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini has reminded parents of the importance of planning the future of their children.

"Do not view family planning only from the perspective of "two children are enough," but there must be a plan to prepare for the childrens education and health in the future. Do not merely think of how to feed our children. The future of our children must be better than ours," she remarked while launching a family planning kampong here on Thursday.

It is important for mothers to pay attention to the growth and development of their children from early childhood by taking them to public health service posts (Posyandu) and planning their future education and health, she emphasized.

Rismaharini, who received the international "Ideal Mother" award from the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization in Cairo in March this year, called for continued efforts to revive the public health service posts and urged mothers to actively bring in their children there.

By doing this, mothers will be able to see the physical, mental, and intellectual growth and development of their children as well as their health through immunization.

Surabaya`s children now compete not only with their counterparts from other cities in Indonesia but also with those from the rest of the world, she affirmed.

Therefore, to be able to compete with children from the rest of the world, they must grow smart and healthy, she added.
