TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Functional Group (Golkar) Party chairman Setya Novanto said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the Golkar Party’s National Leaders Meeting (Rapimnas) that his party would support President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo for a reelection in 2019.
According to Setya, the party’s National Convention has mandated him to engage in political communications with President Jokowi.
“Therefore, I hope that the national leaders meeting can make a decision to support President Jokowi’s candidacy in 2019,” Setya said at the Jakarta Convections Center on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
Setya predicted that Golkar would face political challenges posed by simultaneous regional head elections, presidential election, and legislative election. He added that the current condition would change Golkar’s ways of political communication at the regional level. Setya hopes that the national leaders meeting will result in strategies to consolidate political campaigns during the presidential election and the legislative election.
Golkar held its first national leaders meeting after reconciliation during the national convention.
Golkar’s National Leaders Meeting committee chief Yorrys Raweyai said that the meeting was attended by Golkar’s executive boards from the central and regional levels.
