House Members to Attend Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Pakistan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian parliamentary delegates, represented by Hamdhani of the National Democrat (NasDem) faction and Tjatur Sapto Edy of the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction will attend the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee Meeting on Economic and Sustainable Development Affairs on July 25-29, 2016 in Serena Hotel, Islamabad, Pakistan, House member from the National Democratic (Nasdem) Party Hamdhani said in a written statement, as quoted by state-run Antara news agency.
“Indonesian delegates will consistently voice such issues [economy and development], to strengthen the state, and social welfare,” said Hamdhani, a member of the House’s Commission IV.
He explained that based on the decision in the second session of the plenary of APA in Tehran, Iran, November 2007, APA highlights five major issues under its Standing Committee, namely political, peace and security, social and culture, economy and sustainable development, as well as energy.
APA comprises of 42 member parliaments, 17 observers. Hamdhani went on to say that aside from Indonesia, the APA members are ASEAN member states, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Pakistan, China, Korea, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Iran, etc. The observers are Australia, Fiji, Japan, Qatar, Timor-Leste, New Zealand, Oman, Papua New Guinea, etc.
The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia hosted the third session of the plenary of APA on November 26-29, 2008, in which the then-House speaker was elected as APA President 2008-2010. They discussed the theme of ‘Asia and the Need for a New Global Financial Architecture’, in view of global financial crisis which significantly affected the global economy.
