TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Central Java Correctional Division head, the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, Mulyanto said the suspension of family visits to Nusakambangan, Cilacap, was made for the preparation of the third round of executions. “So we can be more focused,” he told Tempo Monday, July 25, 2016.
Mulyanto explained that Nusakambangan has been closed since yesterday until an unspecified time. However, it would not take a month. “We also want to respect the inmates’ families,” he said.
Mulyanto said he had yet to receive an official statement from the AGO regarding the time of executions. “What’s important is that we have done our best to prepare [for the executions],” he said.
The schedule for family visits to all correctional centers in Nusakambangan Island has been suspended. In Wijayapura Port, Cilacap, a number of people wanting to see their family members had been denied crossing to Nusakambangan.
Nasiroh, 60, said she was about to see his son who was imprisoned in Besi Correctional Center, Nusakambangan Island. “But I’m not allowed to cross [the waters] by an officer. He said family visits to Nusakambangan will be suspended for a week,” said Nasiroh, a resident of Sampang, Cilacap.
