TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution is optimistic that Indonesia’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2016 can reach 5.1 percent based on macro economic assumptions in the state budget (APBN), in which a 5.3 percent growth was projected.
Darmin referred to Indonesia’s economic growth throughout 2015, wherein an increase occurred in each quarter. “It improved from 4.7 percent to 5.0 percent, there were seasonal factors. The current figure could improve,” he said after attending the celebration of the ministry’s 50th birthday in Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, Sunday, July 24, 2016.
The Minister said that economic growth is greatly impacted by domestic credit growth. While credit growth itself seen steady improvement. “Although [the increase] has been relatively low,” he said.
In addition, Darmin explained that credit growth figure must be seen on a month-on-month basis, instead of focusing on year-on-year (yoy) achievement. For example, credit growth in April was 8 percent, it increased to 8.45 percent in May, and had further rose to 8.9 percent in June, he said.
