TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have agreed to expedite the establishment of Jordan Indonesia Business Council to facilitate coordination and cooperation among the two countries’ business players.

The agreement was discussed in the meeting between Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan Teguh Wardoyo and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Commerce Jawad A Al Anani in Amman, the Indonesian Embassy in Amman said Thursday in a press release, as cited by Antara news agency.

In the meeting, Wardoyo elaborated the development of bilateral trade achieved by the two countries.

The trade volume between the two countries in 2015 stood at 256 million US dollars, in which Jordan having a surplus of 65.5 million US dollars. While trade volume in 2014 stood at 305 million US dollars.

Wardoyo and Al Anani have agreed that the trade volume has not indicated the real potential of the two countries. Therefore, they agree to improve it.

Both parties have agreed to improve reciprocal visits by Indonesian and Jordan business players to seek new opportunities in order to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Jakarta will host the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) on October 12-16, 2016, to promote Indonesia’s economic and trade sector.

Indonesia can also cooperate with Jordan to increase its fertilizer production. A joint venture called PT Petro Jordan Abadi had already been established by Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and Indonesia’s PT Petrokimia Gresik in Gresik, East Java.

The company was unveiled in October 2014 by then-Indonesian SOE minister Dahlan Iskan and Jordan’s industry and trade minister Hatem Halawani.
