TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said that the government has its own legal system to resolve the 1965 massacre. Luhut asserted that international tribunals have no authority to deal with incidents occurring in Indonesia back in 1965.
"What's their business? They're not our superiors," Luhut said on Wednesday, July 20. 2016.
Luhut strongly urged international tribunals not to meddle with Indonesia's domestic affairs and expressed strong rejection towards the International People's Tribunal's (IPT) recommendation.
Earlier, the IPT issued a recommendation saying that the Indonesian government must take responsibility over 10 crimes against humanity, including the 1965 massacre. Therefore, the IPT urged the Indonesian government to extend an apology to the 1965 massacre victims and their families.
