TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Real Estate Indonesia (REI) welcomes the recently passed tax amnesty law. REI chairman Eddy Hussy said the policy will allow Indonesia's economy to improve as there would be more money circulating in the market.
"This will turn the wheels of the economy faster. Properties would be more affordable and large companies will invest in infrastructure. And that will affect growth in the real sector, especially property," he told Tempo on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
With the property and infrastructure sectors growing, Eddy said, the economy will grow. "The economy will grow as there will be more job opportunities and other things."
Eddy said that a number of property businesses that are REI's members have shown interest to join the tax amnesty program. To promote the law, he said the government needs to hold campaigns and public disseminations so that people from the lower class can benefit from it, especially since there is room for the SME sector to participate in it.
The REI, he added, will help promote the tax amnesty law as a form of support to the government's policy.
On Tuesday June 28, the House of Representatives passed the tax amnesty bill. The government pegged a repatriated revenue assumption of Rp165 trillion, which was listed in the 2016 state budget amendment. The government and DPR agreed to a tax amnesty period of nine months, starting July this year until March 31, 2017.
