TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The price of chili in markets in Sorong, West Papua, has increased up to a level of Rp 80,000 per kilogram on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. The price is Rp 20,000 higher compared to the previous Rp 60,000 per kilogram price.
Dawan Issim, one of the merchants in Remu Market in Sorong, explained that he had to increase his price because prices from distributors and farmers have been increasing.
In addition, the supply of chili from distributors and farmers is decreasing while demand remains high.
"It is much different from tomatoes, which has ample supplies and which price has recently reduced from Rp 25,000 per kilogram to Rp 20,000 per kilogram on Wednesday," said Darmawan.
Darmawan admitted that prices of several commodities in Remu Market in Sorong have experienced an increase although not as high as chilli.
