TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman said the government will hold a coordination meeting to discuss about the soaring prices of several food items like shallots. Amran said the meeting will be held today, May 30, at the SOE Ministry building in Jakarta.
"We will follow up on it through a coordination meeting at the SOE Ministry building. Then, we will have more discussions with three ministries and echelons 1 and 2," Amran told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Monday, May 30, 2016.
Food prices have been surging over the past few days. In Brebes, a kilogram of shallots are sold for Rp45,000. Meanwhile, farmers are rejecting the entrance of imported shallots to the market.
There are also reports that meat prices have gone up. In traditional markets in Bengkulu, a kilogram of beef costs Rp120,000, increasing from Rp100,000 per kg. The price of chicken meat has also increased from Rp24,000 a kilogram to Rp35,000.
Amran said the meeting will discuss almost all food items which prices have soared. After a meeting, a recommendation will be composed.
"We will give the details tomorrow. We plan to see the follow up discussion first," he said.
