TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Indosat Tbk (Indosat Ooredoo) predicts that data traffic will dominate up to 80 percent ahead of this year’s Eid al-Fitr.
Voice service is predicted to increase by 12 percent, whereas SMS service to drop 12 percent. “Decrease in SMS traffic will be compensated for by significant increase in data service. It is in accordance with Indosat’s focus on LTE development this year,” said Group Head Network Operations Indosat Ooredoo Achmad Abimanyu yesterday in Surabaya.
To anticipate a traffic surge, Indosat has increased voice traffic capacity to 39 million Erlang a day, SMS to increase to 4 billion SMS a day, and data capacity to 6,389 terabyte a day. The increase in capacity will be followed by monitoring of network quality through Indosat Oooredoo Network Operation Center (i-NOC), establishment of homecoming outposts in strategic places, and cooperation with police and relevant agencies.
The Command Centre, or i-NOC, will operate for several days before and after the homecoming to ensure network performance and identify network disruption for an efficient and quick resolution.
During this year’s Eid al-Fitr, 52,326 base transceiver stations (BTS) will serve customers, namely 3,544 4G mobile communication BTS, 25,068 3G mobile communication BTS, and 23,714 2G mobile communication BTS.
