One of the Chinese Nationals arrested by the Indonesian Air Force at Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri said he has checked the data of five Chinese workers arrested by the authorities of Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase. The data from Foreign Workers Control and Utilization Directorate of Manpower Ministry and Immigration Directorate of Legal and Human Rights Ministry shows that one of the five foreign workers have been proven of not having a work permit (IMTA).

“One worker has clearly violated the rules of working without permit,” Hanif told Tempo on Sunday, May 1, 2016. The other four have secured short term work permit for a period of 6 months under the name of PT. Teka Mining Resources (TMR).

However, based on an investigation of the immigration officials, the four foreign workers had been working under the name of PT Geo Central Mining (GMC). “In this case, there have been violations of the IMTA [work permit] in relation to the change of user, including misuse of work permit,” Hanif said.

The investigation has proven the violation. The four workers had not performed their work in accordance with the official permit. According to the permit, two workers are technical engineers, one is a finance manager and one other is a research and development manager. “They had been performing different activities on the ground,” Hanif said.

Based on the findings, Manpower Ministry has temporarily blocked PT TMR and PT GCM from online foreign workers service at PPTKA Directorate of Manpower Ministry. The two companies had been summoned yesterday to clarify the issue.

Hanif said he has deployed manpower inspectors to the location to coordinate with the immigration office, Halim air base authorities, and relevant agencies to investigate the case.
