Jokowi to Hold High-Level Meeting on Maritime Security Issues

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed his concern over the security issues in the maritime boundaries in the wake of the release of ten Indonesian sailors.
"Aside from hostage release, there are also security issues in maritime boundaries," President Jokowi said on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Bogor Presidential Palace.
Therefore, Jokowi said that a meeting regarding the issue will be held on May 5, 2016, adding that it will be attended by foreign ministers and chiefs of staff of the Armed Forces of Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia.
"A meeting will be held on May 5 between Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines," he said.
Earlier, 10 Abu Sayyaf hostages had been released yesterday. President Jokowi had also pushed for joint patrols between Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
"This week, we will invite Malaysian Armed Forces chief of staff and foreign minister, the Philippine Armed Forces chief of staff and foreign minister. We will establish joint patrols to ensure the security of the region," President Jokowi said.
On the same occasion, the President has also expressed his gratitude towards the parties involved in the hostage release including the Philippine government.
