TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Painters Bob Yudhita Agung held an exhibition in collaboration with his ex-wife Widi Benang entitled “Journey” at the Green Art Space, Yogyakarta on April 5-16, 2016. Their works depicted their journey as a married couple from 2007 to late 2015.
In a work entitled “Harapan” (Hope), the painter who is also known as Bob Sick used dark colors depicting two figures facing a wall full of writings. According to Bob, the painting represents his failure in building a family. At the beginning, he was happy with his family and children. However, they are now separated due to various issues, including financial problem since the art market is no longer profitable.
Bob wanted to send a message to his audience that Widi had an important role in his professional and personal lives.
“Widi is a savior to me,” Bob said on Friday, April 8, 2016.
Widi expressed her feelings using threads on a canvas. Widi often works with sewing machines. In a work entitled “Loro Blonyo”, Widi featured a portrait of her and her former husband in a wooden circle. Bob was wearing blangkon(a traditional Javanese hat), and Widi was wearing a traditional Javanese dress. Widi said that the exhibition represented their life as a family.
“It’s like a milestone of our journey,” Widi explained.
Exhibition curator A. Anzieb said that the exhibition had a spiritual dimension reflecting cognitive and intellectual activities, as well as a reflection of artistic expression and building a family. Anzieb said that Widi knew best about Bob’s eccentricity and freedom.
“There’s an energy attached to both of them,” Anzieb added.
To Bob, Widi was not just a spouse, but also an inspiring person who gave him strength. Widi said that she gained experience and motivation to influence the art process, although they decided to be separated.
