TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pizza is known as a flatbread generally topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked in an oven.
However, how if pizza is combined with rendang (beef simmered in coconut milk and spices)? How would it taste?
You can taste it at Pizza Explorer-Flavor of Asia at Lobby Lounge of Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta until 30 April.
In total, there are seven variants of Asia-flavored pizzas from six countries.
They are Tom-Yum flavor pizza from Thailand, Bulgogi and Kimchi flavor pizza from South Korea, Tikka Chicken flavor pizza from India, Chicken Satay and Rendang flavor pizza from Indonesia, Peking Duck flavor pizza from China, and Salmon Teriyaki flavor pizza from Japan.
Asian style toppings are chosen because their tastes are identical with certain countries.
"Satay and rendang flavor pizzas are my favorites. Both taste so good,” said Executive Chef of Gran Melia Hotel Gerald Prinz on Friday (18/3).
For rending lovers, you will get to savor the toppings of shredded rending and strong spices on top of the pizza. Brownish colors match with the green sambal (chilli paste), while slices of red chili pepper and tomatoes also give color to this Indonesian-style pizza.
In addition to rending-style pizza, there’s also chicken-satay flavor pizza that offers the sweet taste from its peanut sauce on top of the tomato sauce.
Besides slices of chicken, the toppings also consist of pickles (cucumber, carrot and cayenne pepper), as well as krupuk.
"The krupuk is here to give the crunchy taste,” Gerald said.
