TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Cellular operator Indosat Ooredoo has launched a home-internet service called GIG. The service provides home users with an internet speed with up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps).
"With the GIG, we aim to provide better and more internet access in residences, CEO Alexander Rusli said at Indosat's headquarters in Jakarta, February 18, 2016.
Indosat is collaborating with Google to provide the GIG. This alliance with the search engine giant is expected to enhance users' digital experience.
"This is an extension to our new spirit in building the Indonesia Digital Nation," he said.
The internet service offers a bundled package of a Chromecast device, a Chromebook laptop, and a Google Drive storage space. The service is available for the 15-100 Mbps subscription package.
This would mark Chromecast's first availability in Indonesia. The thumb-size digital media player that Google developed allows media streaming between devices such as a mobile phone and a TV screen.
"Combining devices like Chromecast with speedy internet access will allow us to witness technology that brings people together, instead of keeping them apart," Alex said.
The GIG subscription package for 15 Mbps of internet speed costs Rp350,000 to Rp400,000. Alex said the service does not apply fair usage policy.
