TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Marwan Jafar projected that the Joint Community Business (UBK) program launched last year would absorb more than 10,000 workers.
According to Marwan, about 3,600 villagers are directly involved in the UBK establishment, production, marketing and supply chains. Marwan claimed that the program, initiated in the fourth quarter of 2015, had developed 36 UBKs in 36 regencies in Java, Sumatera and West Nusa Tenggara.
A UBK is operated by forming a professional and modern business unit managed by a community.
"If the program is developed and improved, we believe that it will boost the economic growth," Marwan said in a press release quoted by Bisnis.com on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Warwan added that the UBK program would increase the number of entrepreneurial villages and expand job opprtunities.
