TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo reproached the Transportation Ministry over its low budget absorption. The president said that in 2014, the ministry only used 75 percent of its allotted budget, and in 2015 it only absorbed 75 percent.

"This year, I hope that [the budget absorption] could be more than 90 percent," Jokowi spoke during the contract signing of the ministry's 2016 activity budget on Monday, January 18.

Jokowi asked his ministers and director generals to always check up on and control their work, so as to optimize their institution's budget uptake.

Today, the Transportation Ministry held a ceremony for the signing of 12 contracts for 12 strategic activity packages for the fiscal year of 2016. The contracts worth totaled at Rp2.07 trillion. By the end of this month, it is expected that Rp14.24 trillion more from 273 packages could be signed as well.

The twelve packages consist of two activities in land transportation sub-sector, four in the marine transportation subsector, three in the civil aviation subsector, two railway transportation projects, and one activity in the human resource development subsector.
