TEMPO.CO, Serpong - The Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) said that 95 percent of corruption cases occurred in regencies and cities.
“ICW’s research shows that most of corruption cases occurred in regions,” ICW coordinator Ade Irawan said in a seminar in Serpong, South Tangerang Friday, November 27.
Ade revealed that perpetrators of corruption crimes were regional leaders, bureaucrats, councilors and businessmen.
“The actors [of the corruption crimes] are similar,” he added.
According to Ade, bureaucrats are those who committed corruption crimes, although they did not serve as decision makers. For instance, Ade said, a lawmaker signed a receipt of payment of Rp19 million (US$1,500) as a fee for a project.
“The project was manipulated. Sadly, for Rp19 million, he took a risk by signing the receipt,” Ade said without revealing the identity of the politician.
Unfortunately, Ade said, law enforces had overlooked a large number of corruption cases in regions.
“We’re calling on law enforces to investigate the cases,” Ade said
