TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT MNC Investama Tbk (BHIT), an investment management firm owned by business tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo, is preparing Rp1 trillion to acquire at least five small banks with assets less than Rp10 trillion.
MNC Investama vice president Darma Putra said the corporate act is aimed at boosting the raising the status of the company's banking subsidiary, Bank MNC Internasional Tbk (BABP), from Commercial Bank Business Group (Bank Umum Kelompok Usaha/BUKU) II to BUKU III.
According to Bank Indonesia Regulation no. 14/26/PBI/2012, BUKU II banks are those with a core capital of Rp1 trillion to Rp5 trillion. Banks with a core capital of Rp5 trillion to Rp30 trillion are categorized as BUKU III.
Darma said that acquiring smaller banks is the fastest way to increase Bank MNC's assets. "in the next three or four years, Bank MNC can reach its target to be categorized as a BUKU III bank," he said in Jakarta Tuesday, November 24.
