TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo on Tuesday, November 24, summoned several newly appointed liaison ministers to elaborate the task of liaison ministers.

“Their task is to become contact person for certain countries,” said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said on Tuesday. He said that in the meeting, the president specified what liaison ministers must do to avoid overlapping.

Sudirman said the basis for appointing liaison ministers is the president’s full authority. He continued that he had no knowledge of the basis. “That’s the president’s discretion. I think there are certain considerations,” he said.

Coordinating Maritime and Resources Minister Rizal Ramli said liaison ministers were also tasked to tackle investment problems. Besides appointing liaison ministers, the president also asked them to appoint related private parties to work together.

Liaison ministers who were summoned were Sudirman Said, Rizal Ramli, State Enterprises Minister Rini Roemarno, National Development Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil, Maritime Affairs and Fishery Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Creative Economy Agency chief Triawan Munaf and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
