TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung expressed his disappointment that US-based daily Washington Post had misidentified Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamrizard Ryacudu as President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in one of its articles.
“The publisher will be sorry for putting a wrong picture that becomes world news. That’s a mistake that should not happen for Washington Post,” Pramono said at his office on Wednesday, October 28.
Pramono revealed that Washington Post had sent a clarification over the mistake, saying that the photo was taken from getty images. Pramono hopes that it was purely a journalistic blunder without a particular motive.
“This is a journalistic error,” Pramono said.
Pramono jokingly said that the misidentification had a positive impact on Ryamrizard.
“Luckily, the defense minister becomes famous,” he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, October 26, 2015, Washington Post published an article covering Jokowi’s working visit to the United States. On page A10, the newspaper featured Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamrizard Ryacudu’s photo depicting him standing in front of the Pentagon building.
Standing next to Ryamrizard was US Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter. However, the photo caption mentioned President Joko Widodo instead of Ryamrizard.
