TEMPO.CO, Bandung-The Bandung City administration received a €4.6 million (US$5.1 million) worth of grant from Netherlands-based drinking water company Vitens Evides International.
The fund was officially received by the city administration during a cooperation agreement signing at the Bandung Command Center.
“This is the result of my visit to Europe. We receive €4.6 million from the Netherlands to improve drinking water supplies for residents in Bandung,” Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said at the City Hall on Friday, October 9.
Ridwan added that the city would improve services provided by the local tap water company, as well as to develop infrastructures related to drinking water processing and clean water pipes.
Vitens Evides International CEO Marco Schouten said that the cooperation with the city administration would last for three years. During the period, both parties would work together to improve tools, reduce leakage, improve production, and deliver better services to customers.
“More importantly, water supplies for Bandung residents can be secured,” Mr. Schouten said.
Marco added that his company would conduct supervision on the program in order to achive international standards.
“We will monitor [the program]. The Netherlands will assign a personnel who can speak Indonesia to stay in Bandung and help with the supervision task,” he said.
