TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-President Joko Widodo said that the central government will prepare regulations on underground space utilization, with regards to the Jakarta's mass rapid transit (MRT) project currently underway.
"This needs new rules and regulations. I believe the governor of Jakarta has this prepared, but on a national scale we also need to be ready for this because I believe that there will be a massive use of underground space in big cities," he said after visiting the MRT tunnel drilling location in Senayan, Thursday, October 8.
The president said that underground space is a new civilization in the field of mass transportation. With the availability of an MRT, there will be transfers of knowledge and technology that provide new insights for Indonesian experts and professionals in this field.
For the MRT project, roads and land surfaces in Jakarta are being drilled by a machine called "Antareja," a name given by Widodo. So far, the machine has drilled over 12 meters.
