TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Environment and Forestry Ministry revealed that as much as 420 companies are being investigation for their alleged involvement in intentional land arson.
Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya, said that the number continues to increase from the previous 270 companies, to 420 companies.
"Now there are 420 companies, and there I have sent 1,200 data to [Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, Agriculture and Spatial Planning Minister]," Siti said on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
Minister Siti explained that her ministry coordinated with the Agriculture and Spatial Planning Minister to identify companies that have concession rights over the land that are being burned in Sumatera and Kalimantan. Companies proven to have been involved in land arson may face sanctions are subject to license suspension up to business license revocation.
Siti added that there are currently four companies whose business license have been suspended and revoked. Meanwhile, another 30 companies are currently under investigation.
