TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama welcomes PT Jakarta Monorail if the company intends to sue the government of Jakarta regarding the termination of the monorail project.

Ahok said that the monorail project, which was initiated by Jakarata Governor Sutiyoso (currently Chief of National Intelligene Agency), has officially ended. The reason is that the Jakarta government thinks PT Jakarta Monorail is no longer capable of meeting the requirements proposed by the government.

Ahok admits the Jakarta administration has sent a letter of notice to PT Jakarta Monorail related to the termination of their contract. The decision is final without a renegotiation, said Ahok. The piles along Jakarta main roads, which was originally intended for monorail has been taken over by PT Adhi Karya for the LRT (light rail transit) development.

Previously, PT Jakarta Monorail through its attorney, Pia Akbar Nasution, say the company plans to sue the government of Jakarta. The lawsuit will be filed if a unilateral decision has been made by the government.

Currently, there has not been an official decision from the Jakarta government regarding the termination of the monorail project. The government’s decision is a determinant of the continuation plan for a lawsuit.
