TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heart-pounding beat a la punk rock music broke silent air of Friday afternoon at KBJamming Vol.18 which was held at FIS IV building of Hasanuddin University, Makassar. Groups of youngsters dressed in blacks were jumping up and down enjoying the rhythm.
“Punk music force us to exert much energy,” said Fami, a vocalist of punk band The Hotdogs.
Fami’s band and a number of other punk bands took part in the event which was held by Kedai Buku Jenny community.
Despite of anti comfort-zone philosophy commonly carried by punk music communities, Fami believes that punk members should start to be more open to changes. Once, Fami said, a Ministry staff joined the punk music community. But he soon left the community because he was often bullied for his well-established job.
A discussion forum preceding the music performance discussed the development of punk music with the band members as speakers. It includes sharing session and talks about the role of punk music in the campaigns relating to social and environmental issues in Makassar.
