Kontras Urges Police To Investigate Mysterious Shootings

TEMPO.CO, Makassar - The Commission for Missing People and Victims of Violence (Contrast) Sulawesi urged the police to uncover a series of mysterious shooting cases and cases of stray bullets in Makassar.

In the last two years, there were 13 cases of stray bullets that have killed three residents in Daeng. The case was not solved and keep repeating.

The last case concerns a housewife, Eka, 24, who was hit by a stray bullet in her right arm. The incident occurred when Eka was resting at her home in the Karuwisi Village, Panakkukang District, Makassar, on Saturday, August 29, at around 2 am. Eka woke up and found her hands covered in blood after being hit by a bullet.

Deputy Coordinator of Kontras Sulawesi Nasrum said mysterious shooting incidents had occurred four times in Makassar this year and have not been revealed. "If the situation continues, it will become a menace for the people of Makassar. Police must solve it to give a sense of security and comfort," he said, Sunday, August 30.

Kontras Sulawesi pressured the police to be professional and transparent. Disclosure of mysterious shootings and stray bullets could be revealed when the police called seriously deal with it. The cause, if the shot came from official weapons, surely there are markings on the bullet projectile. When fired from a homemade weapon, he hoped the police will be able to trace it.

Nasrum said of three cases of mysterious killings and a stray bullet in Makassar that were quite prominent was the death of Fathir Muhammad, a 13-month old baby that was shot dead at his house in Jalan Baji Gau, February 1, 2013.

Two other cases, was the death Subhan, 21 years old, who was shot while crossing Jalan Sungai Saddang, August 27, 2014. A year later, on 11 April a day laborer named Mukram, 21 years old, who also died as a result of being shot in the side of Jalan Sultan Alauddin.

Panakkukang Sector Police Chief Commissioner Woro Susilo said the police still can not conclude who the perpetrators of the shootings are. Even so, the police will continue to investigate the case to its conclusion.
