TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir reminded Indonesian researchers hold researches with high levels of innovation that can be applied massively.
"We must think of ways to commercialize research results in the corporate world. We have to think about the commercialization strategy," the minister spoke during a national seminar held in Jakarta, Monday, August 3.
However, he said, the commercialization of research results is not solely the responsibility of the government. Industries are also expected to participate in research funding.
"Indonesia's research funding is only 0.09 percent of the GDP. Seventy-six percent are funded by government and 24 percent funded by industries," said Nasir.
The Research Ministry today held a national seminar to celebrate the coming National Technology Awakening Day celebrated every August 10. The seminar is dubbed 'Revival of Science and Technology-Based National Industries for the Children Nations'.
The seminar was attended by a number of research institutions from various ministries, researchers, universities, and industry players.
"The National Technology Awakening Day is celebrated as a way to acknowledge and appreciate the work of Indonesians, encourage innovation and creativity, as well as serving as a momentum of public accountability from the science and technology community," said Minister Nasir.
