TEMPO.CO, Makassar - Din Syamsuddin, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah, Indonesia’s second largest Islamic organization, called on Muhammadiyah members to support the independence of Palestine.
The call was made before the 47th Muhammadiyah Congress, which is to be held in Makassar on 3 August.
On the sidelines of the Taaruf Muktamar Muhammadiyah parade held on Saturday (1/8) Din introduced a religious figure from Palestine, Sayyidin bil Arabiyah.
Muhammadiyah’s commitment to support the independence of Palestine has long been voiced and it is manifested by among others the giving of aids from Muhammadiyah to Palestine when Palestine was hit by natural disasters several years ago.
For the record, the congress is scheduled to be officially opened on Sunday (3/8) at Karebosi field by President Joko Widodo and thousands of people are expected to attend this year’s congress.
