TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso, chief of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim) at the National Police, refused to report his wealth to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). According to Budi, he was not obliged to do so.
"[Not reporting wealth] is not a crime. So I refuse to report [my wealth]," Budi said at National Police headquarter, Jakarta, on Friday, May 29, 2015.
Budi, who formerly worked under Comr. Gen Budi Gunawan at the Police Education Institute, asked the KPK instead to collect data on his wealth. Therefore, Budi added, the KPK would have a more objective estimation on his wealth instead of filling the official wealth report (LHKPN) form.
To this date, Budi has yet submitted the LHKPN to the KPK, although Law No. 28/1999 on clean governance stipulates that every state official is obliged to report his or her wealth to the KPK.
Since his inauguration as the Bareskrim chief succeeding Comr. Gen. Suhardi Alius on January 19, 2015, the KPK has reminded Budi to report his wealth.
"KPK officials are ready to help with LHKPN submission whenever required," KPK spokesperson Priharsa Nugara said.
