TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf “JK” Kalla has ordered the National Police to conduct investigation into the murder of environmental activist Jopi Teguh Lesmana Peranginangin at Venue Cafe, South Jakarta, on Saturday, May 23, 2015.
According to JK, the murder is categorized into a big case that must be exposed by the police.
“Police must investigate the case,” JK said on Sunday, May 24, 2015 in Jakarta.
JK declined to speculate that the Jopi’s murder involved law enforcers since the activist was investigating certain cases. JK said that he would wait for the investigation results from the police.
“Let’s wait [investigation results from] the police,” he said.
Jopi died at Pertamina Hospital, Jakarta, after he was stabbed in a bar fight. Police said that the knife attack had caused a wound on Jopi’s back and damaged his lungs. Jopi’s murder has added a long list of violence against activists and human rights defenders in Indonesia.
