TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs has extended the moratorium of the permits of fishery business until the end of October 2015 following the illegal fishing practice that remains rampant in the country.
"The ministry has extended the moratorium because when it was in place in the past few months, it turns out the illegal fishing is still rampant in Indonesian maritime territories,” said Ronald Sorongan, Head of North Sulawesi Maritime and Fisheries affairs Agency in Manado on Friday.
Ronald also said that in addition to the fact the illegal fishing is still rampant; data collection on all vessels in Indonesia has not been completed by the verification team.
Therefore, he said that the Ministry has extended the moratorium. However, he said that once the verification team has completed the data collection, there’s a possibility that there will be some changes within the moratorium.
