TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Binjai City Administration, North Sumatra, celebrated its 143th anniversary by holding 17 Ethnic Culinary Festival in Merdeka open field. The festival tempted foodies with variety of healthy and halal foods distinctive to Melayu, Karo, Javanese, Mandailing, Minang, Aceh, Toba, Chinese, Tamil, Nias and other ethnics.
“The dishes cooked by the 17 ethnics will be distributed to people who come to the event,” said Hendrik Tambunan, the Head of Public Relation of Binjai City Administration.
The organizing committee had prepared 2,500 coupons for free meals which were distributed to residents, institutions and schools.
Being held in collaboration with the Inter-Ethnic Communication Forum, the event is aimed to promote Bijai tourism.
“The culinary festiva is also important to overcome Binjai people’s yearning for Nusantara culinary heritage,” Hendrik added.
