TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Handoyo Sudrajat, the Director General of Corrections at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, has officially resigned from his position and been replaced by Ma’mun who previously served as an expert staff of the Justice and Human Rights Minister.
Handoyo sent his resignation letter to Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly on Tuesday April 29, 2015.
“[I resigned] for many reasons,” Handoyo told Tempo on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.
Handoyo claimed that he was the most responsible person in the penitentiaries directorate general. However, he added there were many unexecuted programs.
“For instance, the MoU with the Indonesian Army (TNI) couldn’t be executed since the budget was still marked [for approval],” Handoyo said.
The MoU between the Ministry and the TNI was signed on April 2, 2015 to assign retired soldiers as prison officers, grant weapons for security purposes, and build army outposts at Nusakambangan Island prison. To this date, the agreement has yet been set in motion.
In addition, other unresolved issues in penitentiaries affairs, such as drugs in penitentiaries and lack of security personnel have made Handoyo feels that he needs a break.
“We tried to procure equipment, but the budget was still marked [for approval]. We couldn’t even conduct recruitment,” he said.
The job handover ceremony was held on Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015, at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry.
