Jokowi to Break Ground 1 Million Houses Next Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has been set to break ground on 1 Million Houses project on Thursday, April 29, 2015, according to Djoko Mursito, the head of public communication center at the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.
Djoko explained that the 1 Million Houses project comprised 603,516 units of MBR and 395,484 units of Non-MBR.
The planning will be centralized in the Industrial area of Ungaran, Semarang, as a part of activities to be launched on the National Labor Day on May 1, 2015.
The ground-breaking will be conducted simultaneously in 8 provinces by the governors and regents. The ground-breaking will also signify that the construction of the low-cost apartment for labors in Semarang is set in motion.
The government will also launch a policy related to the house financing policy that allow an interest rate cut from 7.25 percent to 5 percent with a 20-year tenor for MBR units. In addition, an assistance fund of Rp4 million (US$307) will also be awarded to an MBR who will buy a house for the first time by using KPR-FLPP (housing loans).
