TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Harry Azhar Azis, Head of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), asserted that the soybean self-sufficiency program initiated by the Agriculture Ministry has failed to meet its annual growth target of 20.05 percent. In 2014 the program missed the productivity target of 2.7 tons.
In an overview of the second semester examination results (IHPS) for 2014, Harry said that the target of the self-sufficiency program was set with no basis. As a result, the state expenditure of Rp 1.42 trillion (around US$109.2 million) was nothing but a waste.
"The government has yet to be able to reduce the country's dependency on soybean imports," Harry said at the House of Representatives office on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.
In addition, the rice for the poor program cannot be considered effective. The government has only managed to distribute Rp 17.19 trillion (around US$1.3 billion) out of Rp 18.16 trillion (around US$1.4 billion) allocated for the program.
