TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - The National Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in Surabaya claimed that it will not endorse Tri Rismaharini as the candidate for Surabaya Mayor in the National Congress in Bali on April 9. "We will endorse our own cadres," said PDI-P Treasurer Budi Leksono.
Budi said that in the Congress, PDI-P Surabaya will endorse its chairman Wisnu Sakti Buana, who currently serves as Deputy Mayor of Surabaya, as the next Mayor.
The exclusion of Risma, according to Budi, is based on a statement made on March 15, in which all cadres agreed that they would not propose Risma. Budi said that Risma has never claimed to be a cadre of PDI-P.
"She does not have a [membership card]. She does not even contribute to the party," Budi said.
Moreover, Budi said that since Risma was elected as the Mayor of Surabaya in 2010, she has never joined an official meeting of PDI-P. Therefore, PDI-P Surabaya is determined to endorse its own cadre in the next congress. Nevertheless, Budi said that the power lies completely in the hand of Megawati.
"Once [Megawati] files a recommendation, no one dares to oppose," said Budi.
