TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh – Nasir Djamil, a member of the Commission III at the House of Representatives, told a press conference on Monday, March 30, 2015 that the recent murders of soldiers in North Aceh and a police officer in Pidie Regency were drug-related.
“These are pure crimes,” Nasir said.
Nasir has also called for cooperation between the Police and the Indonesian Military to expose the perpetrators in order to regain public trust toward law enforcers. Nasir added that the law allowed the police to request assistance from the Armed Forces (TNI).
“The victims were soldiers, and their firearms were snatched by the armed group," he said.
Nasir also called on the Aceh Police chief to roll out crackdowns on illegal guns used in crimes.
“The central government must pay attention [to this issue] by allocating a budget for the Aceh Police,” Nasir added.
Aceh Police chief Insp. Gen. Husein Hamidi claimed that no new guns had been found in Aceh. He said that most of the guns in Aceh were leftovers of the conflict. The Aceh Police also called on people who had illegal guns or information on them to report to the police.
“If [the guns] are found during an operation, we will take necessary legal actions. So we called for the public's willingness [to voluntarily report the illegal guns],” Husein said.
