TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A survey by Setara Institute on 'how High School students perceived religious tolerance and radicalism' shows that one out of 14 students agrees with the cause brought by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Out of 684 respondents, 7.2 percen claimed that they understand and agree with ISIS’ cause. In the same survey, 16.9 percent of the respondents recognized ISIS as a group struggling to establish Islamic nation.
"The number should be a serious warning for Indonesia," said Deputy Chief of Setara Institute, Bonar Tigor Naipospos.
Bonar claimed that the extreme influence was caused by a flow of unfiltered information, in which 67 percent of the respondents used internet as their prime media. “More than half of the respondents claimed that they often access media. If the information is not accurate, it will be disturbing," said Bonar.
