Immigration Arrests Six Foreigners for Not Having Passports

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang – Soekarno-Hatta Airport's immigration authorities have detained six foreigners for not having immigration documents. The foreigners consist of four Sri Lankans, one Nigerian and one Indian. “They were arrested in a raid at Green Park View apartment, West Jakarta, on March 24,” said Soekarno Hatta's immigration chief Sutrisno on Wednesday.
In the raid, the authorities caught eleven foreigners from multiple countries. However, after a through investigation, five foreigners were released after showing their passports and immigration documents, while six others were brought to the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office for questioning.
Based on investigation into the four Sri Lankans, they came to Indonesia to work as specialists sponsored by a private company. Sutrisno explained they were promised to work in Indonesia as specialists and had paid around US$9,000 to their friend, initialed S.
Upon arriving in Jakarta, they were lodged in a shophouse at Roxy Mas, West Jakarta and later moved to Green Park View apartment. During their time in Indonesia, they did not work at all and stayed in the apartment. “Their passports were taken by S. We’re still looking for this person,” said Sutrisno.
The Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office is still investigating the case. According to Sutrisno, there could be more suspects. They are subjected to article 120 and 126 in Law No. 6/2011 about immigration.
