TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono is planning to apply for Rp10 trillion (US$833.3 million) in loan to the government to finance basic infrastructure projects, such as toll roads, water, dams and irrigation. According to Basuki, some of the projects are not appealing to private investors.
“So, they [the projects] are the government’s responsibilities,” he said on Friday, February 27, 2015.
Basuki explained that projects of clean water provision would have the largest portion of the fund. The loan, Basuki said, would stem from international financing institutions, such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and those from China and Japan.
Up until Friday afternoon, the discussion on the new loan request was still ongoing at the Coordinating Economic Ministry office. Attending the discussion were Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil, Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara, Health Minister Nila Moeloek, and Finance Ministry’s head of fiscal policy Suahasil Nazara.
