TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 22 villages out of 281 villages in Tegal regency, Central Java, were declared as dengue fever endemic areas.
“In those 22 villages, we found cases of dengue fever for three consecutive years,” said Ari Dwi Cahyani from Tegal Health Agency.
Ari added that those 22 villages were scattered in 10 districts, among others Slawi, Talang, Kramat, Suradadi, Tarub, Balapulang, and Jatinegara.
He went to say that since January until today, a total 39 cases of dengue fever has been recorded in Tegal Regency, in which one patient died.
Furthermore, in a bid to prevent more victims of dengue fever, he said Tegal Health Agency had been disseminating ways to eradicate mosquito breeding spots and fogging in 22 dengue fever endemic villages.
According to Ari, an investigation that has been conducted since December 2014 shows that people’s consciousness is still low to apply measures to eradicate mosquito breeding spots routinely.
Meanwhile, in Brebes regency, the number of dengue fever cases is much higher than the one in Tegal.
Since January until today, there have been 64 cases of dengue fever, in which seven of them died.
“On average, dengue fever patients are under age children,” said Awaludin, Head of Division of Prevention and Eradication of Diseases of Brebes Health Agency.
