TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian Exterior Media Companies Nuke Mayasaphira has asked the Jakarta administration for the concession of the ban to put up cigarettes advertisement billboards.
The association, she said, has asked for exceptions of the ban in certain areas.
"The city government can regulate the areas,” said Nuke.
The request for the concession is done following the implementation of the Gubernatorial Regulation Number 1 of 2015 on the Ban Cigarettes and Tobacco Products Advertisements on Exterior Media.
Article 1 of the Regulation states that the ban aims to protect children from the danger of smoking that is addictive.
Nuke explained that the agency asked for the concession because there are several areas that are designated as the location of entertainment areas for adults.
Nuke also said the association did not completely reject the ban and cigarette billboards in certain areas are chosen as the middle ground.
For the record, the city government has a program to push down the number of smoking-related diseases.
